This product is not meant for a radio flyer trike. But it does work! You install it the same as you would if it was going on the trike it was meant for. It doesn’t fit perfectly but it does work! Make sure to disable the pedals so they do not spin when the tires do. All the reviews saying it caused sudden stops obviously didn’t disable the pedals. This is for a child that cannot reach the pedals yet. The foot support that came with our trike was too small and wouldn’t allow my son to sit comfortably. We also didn’t like his sitting position with his legs just dangling. This fixes our problem. My husband is very handy and was able to modify this using paracord to make the turning radius better.

My 15 month old daughters feet use to dangle on the Happy Navigator. Now that I purchased the footrest, it works wonders. I was cautious after reading about everyone experience with the sudden stop when baby puts pressure on the footrest but I took a chance. I'm glad I did, I have not had any issues and my daughter looks comfortable.

Just a note on the install. I did not have to reverse the velcro like the other reviewers. I did make the mistake of not undoing the velcro prior to install which I kicked myself for. Other than that little set back, it was easy to install in about 5 mins.

This is a great addition to our Kettler Air Navigator. My 15 month old son loves his tricycle but he's too young to pedal it so this gives him a nice place to safely rest his feet. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is that it was much harder to put on than it needed to be. As an earlier reviewer said, it's much easier to install if you reverse the velcro before you start. Unfortunately it wasn't clear to me what this meant until I was struggling to attach backwards velcro to the underside of a tiny tricycle. I feel like it took me almost as long to put this footrest onto the bike as it did to assemble it! Now that that frustration is behind us, I absolutely love having this footrest on the bike. I would recommend this to everyone who has a Kettler bike for their 1-2 year old.

The Kettler footrest, even when installed properly, is very dangerous! My 16-month-old son simply pressed his foot down on the footrest while I was pushing him, and it immediately made the trike come to an abrupt stop, throwing his face into the handlebars. He now has his first black eye. We hadn't even made it out of the driveway when this happened, and I certainly wasn't pushing him very fast. My husband and I worked on the footrest for hours, trying to make it work so that he couldn't press down and engage the brake. It was impossible. Now I own a $220 trike that my son is terrified of because he was injured on it during the first 2 minutes he was riding it. Do not buy this! The trike is very nice, but the footrest is horrible. Also, since my son can't reach or use the pedals yet, the entire trike is pretty useless to us without the footrest. It feels like a waste of money.

I was able to install this footrest on my  Kettler Happy Air Navigator  in literally less than a minute. Other reviews made me concerned about a difficult installation but I did not experience any problems. I did not have to reconfigure the straps in any way. The instructions aren't detailed so there might be some confusion about how to install the straps.

First, make sure the strap is not going through the little strap hoop. Position the footrest so the pedals fit in the grooves. Then feed the strap through the hoop and pull it back over itself so that the velcro sticks. Once completed, the yellow pedal should be visible through the little hoop.

The footrest has prevented my child from dragging her feet and ruining her shoes. She is very comfortable and looks like she is lounging in a recliner. I find the footrest to be a nice addition to the trike until my child starts to pedal on her own.

UPDATE March 2013: I have found this footrest to have an annoying habit of locking the wheels if my child pushes on the footrest in a certain way. It causes the entire trike to come to a sudden stop. This seems to happen on a regular basis and is very jarring both to the child rider and adult pusher. I've deducted a couple stars because of this issue.

As other reviewers have said, the integration with the pedals and the freewheel system makes this footrest worthless. It works if the child is very small and cannot put any weight on the foot rest. As the child gets larger and starts pushing down, the pedal system engages and basically locks up the front wheel. Not very much fun when you are pushing the kid at a fast pace.

Kettler needs to find a way to disengage the pedal system (or remove the pedals) for this to be an effective component. I would not recommend this item to anyone that want to push their kid around before they can rest their feet on the pedals.

I have to admit that I almost didn't purchase the footrest because of so many negative reviews...but I decided that after spending so much on this trike that an extra $20 was negligible, lol. I'm grateful I bought it!! My daughter began using her trike around 8/9 months old (before she could really walk) thanks to these footrests!!

After riding her trike just once...we essentially had to replace her stroller with her Kettler Air Navigator. We would buckle her in, she would set her feet on the footrests while holding the handlebars, and we would go anywhere we would have gone with the stoller!! We never had a single issue with the footrests in any aspect.

I was really worried about how to attach the footrests after reading the reviews...but it turned-out that they really only logically attached one way -I'm still not sure if I attached them as they were supposedly intended or if I adapted it according to the review suggestions, lol...but whatever I did worked. I definitely recommend the footrests for younger riders!!!
